I feel like Old Photos Find Me…

vintage, antique, Italian, Italy, Sicily, Sicilian Photo, San Cataldo, 25 Aprile 1909

Maybe because I love them so much. When I was in Italy a few years ago, I bought an old book at the Cortona antique market, held one weekend a month in the open piazza. This photo was hidden in the leaves. I am particularly enchanted with this one because I want to know the story. Who are they? What are these people like? Are they fun at parties?

It also reminded me of the photograph I had done on Jekyll Island, Georgia earlier that same year. I am quite fond of the idea of Victorians on the beach.

Into the Tuscan Fog

Fog-Man-and-Church-2-1024x426

Fall in Cortona has a clarity and color all its own.
Some mornings we awake to a world of mystery when Cortona is banked in moving bands of fog.

Like a glamour filter enveloping the world, there is a glowing effect over what we see…
and more importantly and mysteriously, what we do not see !

Fog also produces a cooling soft light, often fading slowly as golden sun rays appear, streaking down through the thinning atmosphere and dappling the landscape, eventually giving way to a beautiful misty sunny morning.

These two images above were taken on the same foggy morning walk, just above Cortona, about 15 minutes apart. The image here below was on another great day when wispy bands partially covered our view of the valley below Cortona’s hilltop.
