Workshop After-After-Party

Thanks to all of you who were here for BEYOND PIXELS: Turning your digital images into objects of art. We followed with our traditional wine and cheese party… but the festivities expanded into the next day as well!

I always forget to take a group photo during the workshops. It is my worst omission and I only remember once everyone starts to leave and it is too late. I do however love to make portraits of my students, one at a time, and as time allows, when I see great light, space and the perfect opportunity.

The Message Behind the Work

For years I thought that just showing my images should be enough… that by looking at the print alone, my intention and purpose as a photographer was clearly all in there, somehow magically downloaded in a mind-meld to the viewer. I was so wrong! By not letting the viewer in on my thought processes, personal history, and the technical in-camera work, costumes, sets and props that I had suffered long and hard to create, a major misunderstanding and disconnect was taking place. As I began to write, even just scribbled notes on napkins and in margins, something much more real started to crystallize, connecting me to a new revelation of my work’s meaning, and ultimately to a tangible appreciation from my viewing audience.

With my 13 WOMEN series, the stories came first. These strong female characters, with their symbolism and legends started out first in story form, and then I found the models. Once I started to search, it is really quite funny how quickly and easily they began to appear. Many were total strangers, and the uncanny coincidences behind the making of these images are a whole other story! I get into telling some of them with my artist’s talk, THE DESIGN OF MYTH.

Basically a BOOK IN A BOX – This set is in a Limited Edition of 13 – and contains 13 of the original 13 Women print series, with archival inks on soft watercolor paper, and interleaved with the stories of each character printed on translucent overlays… all housed in a handmade burl wood veneered walnut box. Current price: $3330.00

Individual prints are also available.
